Notes
Jessica, Suzan and Tape went to the village to teach the community members how to build the energy saving stoves. When they arrived there, they went to one of the committee member’s home (Mr.Bwana) who hadn’t got a stove and found most members gathered there busy stamping the dirt. The community welcomed Kibo staff and after exchanging greetings,Kibo staff requested the members to form two groups so that one would slope to the upper side of the village and build one stove while the other remained at the lower side. It was very important to divide one group into two because it enabled each one to see how the stove was built without squeezing one another in the kitchen more especially the elderly people. Kibo staffs began building the stoves from both sides while explaining each step to the members. Some members also participated in other steps such as cutting and measuring the banana stems that were going to be fixed into the stoves to create holes. After building the two stoves, Kibo staff went to the other two homes where members tried building stoves on their own and corrected some mistakes that they made while showing them the right ways to build the stoves. The members were so grateful for the stoves that day, thanking Kibo group for the Healthy and Safe kitchens program. Kibo staff thanked all the members for participating in the stove building and encouraged them to always try and practice how to build the stoves because it would make them perfect with time. They also requested the members to smear some of their facilities such as the kitchens, stoves, shower areas and pit latrines so as to live a healthy life. The meeting finally came to an end with a prayer from the village leaders.
