To check on facility constructions
While In Mpumiro village, to checked on improvements being made in sanitation and hygiene through the construction of sanitation facilities.
In one home Tom found a resident digging a new pit for his new latrine. The pit was at a depth of about 20ft. The resident said he wanted to dig to 25 ft because he has a big family. He has also encouraged his two sons to combine and dig a pit and construct a new latrine for there families as well instead of sharing with him because culturally it’s not appropriate.
Tom thanked and appreciated him to the efforts he is putting in to help his family get better in sanitation and hygiene. He had also started on working on a new kitchen for his family and likewise encouraged his sons to construct kitchens for there homes as well. His neighbor had also started on a new pit. Tom moved to the upper section and found three new pits as well being dug. Tom encouraged the young man who as digging to dig a new pit as the first one was not well dug. It was wider which would make construction of the slab using logs harder. The resident asked the chairman to guide him on the dimensions. Tom also moved in other homes encouraging residents to work and improve. Tom was forced to leave early after a tractor started working on the road and trucks started delivering piles of dirty. This was going to block the access to the road so Tom left for jinja.
