Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the upper side of the village to monitor the maintenance of the Healthy and Safe Kitchens facilities such as the dish racks, smearing of the kitchens and stoves, shower areas, latrines and main houses. When she arrived there, she met some of the village committee members gathered at the trading center discussing about challenges faced in their homes. They welcomed Suzan and after exchanging greetings and sharing a few reports concerning the program, they got up and began moving around the village visiting home to home while monitoring the progress of the program activities. During the process, a few members had improved in their sanitation and hygiene by digging up new latrines and rubbish pits, smeared all their houses and stoves, repaired their dish racks and kitchens. This was so encouraging to see and Suzan requested those who hadn’t maintained their facilities to always look at their fellow member’s homes as an example for this would enable them improve on their general sanitation and hygiene. Some women who had begun using the new stoves for cooking reported that the stoves used less firewood and cooked food so fast than before when they used the three stones open flames for cooking. Suzan encouraged the members to always maintain all their facilities such as repairing and smearing their buildings so as to live a better healthy life with their families. The members thanked Kibo staff for the Kitchens program saying how it is changing their lives and how it has brought unity within their community. The leaders promised to always remind the other members in improving on their homes and then wished Suzan a safe journey back home.

Next Visit: 2019-08-02 - Purpose: To monitor the stove usage and other facilities.
