Notes
Tape and Jeska went to the village purposely to teach the community the values and importance of smearing their houses. When they arrived in the village, they found the members already gathered at the meeting place with some of their local leaders. They warmly welcomed kibo staff to their village and settled down under the cool trees. The L.C.1 chairperson Mr. Sula opened the meeting with a prayer and later invited kibo staff to take over the meeting. Kibo staff introduced the smearing lessons to the community and requested the members to participate by mentioning some of the importance of smearing their buildings. The members raised their hands one by one giving different answers about smearing which was very important because it enabled them to realize the need to smear their houses. Most members knew the importance of smearing their houses because the answers were quite similar to what kibo staff was going to teach about such as eliminating dust from the houses which would cause jiggers and other crawling insects. Smearing would also make the entire home look neater and healthy to live in because a home which was not smeared would attract different insects especially jiggers, ticks and mosquitoes which would bring about different diseases. Kibo staff then requested the members to identify a home of at least an elderly helpless member where the smearing demonstration would be carried out in the next coming meeting, for this would enable others to learn how to smear their buildings since not everyone knew how to smear their houses. The members thanked kibo staff for the lessons taught that day and the meeting finally came to an end.
