Notes
Introduction Teaching pupils about the facts and myths on HIV was so good because pupils come to know the truths and the false about HIV/ AIDS. In Uganda mostly children are being deceived that HIV is witch craft practice, parents don’t want to tell their children the truth about HIV that is why in Uganda HIV is rampant among the youth due to ignorance. - By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to know what HIV is and what AIDS is. - By the end of the day, pupils will know the Myths and the facts about HIV and AIDS. Overview When Manuela arrived at school, she went to the headmistress office to sign, after that she went to Life Skills class, when she entered the the class, pupils were very happy to see her, quickly Manuela greeted them and requested them to seat down, she asked them about the previous lessons which they learnt, pupils were able to share their ideas this made Manuela happy. After that exercise, Manuela introduced a new topic, HIV/AIDS, Manuela started by asking the pupils that, what is AIDS?, what is HIV? People did not have ideas actually they told Manuela that they do listen, but they don’t know what it is. Manuela told the pupils that HIV is a virus that attacks human immune system, HIV is a virus that leads to AIDS, Manuela explained to the pupils what HIV means in full, that it is Human Immune Virus, she also defined what AIDs is, she said that , AIDS is the combination of disease for example Tuba-closes, malaria Syphilis, candida and among others, then she said that, A means acquired, I means immune, D means Deficiency and S means Syndrome. After explaining the above statement, Manuela went on and asked the pupils about the myth and the facts about HIV and AIDS, here Manuela also started by asking the pupils if they have ever had anything about HIV/ AIDS, pupils responded that yes , they said that their parents tells them that HIV is the disease for immoral people that if they have sex they will catch it, Manuela told them yes but it dose not mean that alone, because even children catch the Virus during birth and while still in the womb and during breast feeding, Manuela went on and told them to that people say “HIV has cure in United state of America, HIV virus is the disease for White peoples and-even some times they say that it is a curse”. Manuela told pupils not to listen to those information. Manuela went on and explained to the pupils about the facts of HIV, she told them that, HIV kills , HIV has no cure, HIV affects our immune system, HIV does not segregate any body and it is all over the world. And the only way to be free HIV is to abstinence and be careful all the time. Finally, Manuela encouraged the pupils to be very careful and always abstain from sex and other practice that can lead to sexual.
