Notes
Alex with the sanitation committee members moved to those specific homes that had been lagging behind in pit latrine construction. They moved in the sections of Isamba and Kisiro north. On a good note, they saw great improvements in these sections of the village. Ben Wamutawa finally completed his pit latrine, Badagawa Mohammed is working on a new pit latrine after the old one sunk in due to the heavy rains that poured three days ago. On a sad note, three pit latrines sunk in when it rained and this is a big challenge to this community. However, they were encouraged to start on new ones. The biggest challenge in Kisiro is pit latrines collapsing whenever it rains because of the soft sandy soils that sink in whenever it rains. It’s however very good that most people are able to replace their pit latrines that collapse. WASH will plan to update these homes in the third evaluation and decide on a way forward after a full month of intensive follow up in the village.
Next Visit
2020-08-02 - Purpose: Update the homes into the third survey evaluation
Program Success
There is a great sanitation improvement in the village with many of the homes completed their new facilities and more emphasis on new pit latrine construction
Program Critical Needs
There is a great water need in Kisiro with many people walking very long distance in search of water for drinking and getting water from the swamp
Program Ownership
Many households in the village have come to learn that it’s good to re-construct new pit latrines whenever it rains and the existing pit latrines collapse. This community being sandy, the pit latrines easily sink in when it rains heavily
Other Program Observations
Program Expected Of Village
The village leaders were encouraged to move home to home in their respective zones while ensuring on standards.
Program Staff Preparations Next Visit
