Notes
Enock, Martin, Todd Watson and other guys from the US traveled to this community to also check on the progress of sanitation and hygiene improvement in this community. As soon as they reached this community, they met with the local leaders who walked them around this community to continue teaching, sensitizing, monitoring and emphasizing the importance of good sanitation and hygiene facilities. They walked in many home where they saw new latrine structures well built with bricks and some built with mad wall. They also saw many latrines with the roof constructed, they saw many new shower areas, kitchen areas, rubbish pits. As we continued walking around we noticed some latrines had many flies inside, we got an opportunity to teach these people the lessons of using ash in the latrines to chase flies out. We made a demonstration in two latrines where families in the community saw how powerful ash was to chase flies out of the latrine. There are families who we met constructing new latrines and some where also working on there hand washing stations. There are new latrine hole which we also saw, two of them were 25ft deep and the others were 20 and 15ft. During the conversation with these families, they promised that they are waiting for some money from the harvest then they can construct a good standard latrine with good brick and concrete slab. Most of the people are so grateful for the progress and program of water sanitation and hygiene. They tell us testimony’s of many people who used to practice open defecation in the bushes around but at the moment they have new latrines and using them. This shows a progress in the programs and people are continuously learning the benefits of sanitation and hygiene.
