- Notes
- Enock and Martin we to continue teaching, sensitizing, mobilizing, monitoring the progress of sanitation and hygiene in this community. As they reached the community, they met with the local leaders, who they asked questions about the response of the community about the program and how impactful it has been. The chairman and VHTs first of all appreciated the wonderful work kibo WASH team is doing in their community. They said many homes which for many years practiced open defecation, didn’t know the dangers and damages they are causing. But when the wash team came to there community, there eyes where opened to learn the core values and importance of proper sanitation and hygiene not only for their homes but for the entire community. It was good to know how important the program is to this community, after a brief meeting, we walked around the community to check on the many new facilities being constructed and also met some men busy dig new pits. We walked around the trading centre where most of the latrines in the centre are constructed by bricks and cement. People in this community learnt the importance of digging deep latrines and many have embraced the program. There are 7 newly constructed latrines in the trading centre, 4 new rubbish pits, 5 new dish racks and many new shower areas.
We continued guiding the residents on how to construct good standard facilities and why it’s so important to use good materials. There has been a great improvement and reduce of open defecation, many homes are now having latrines and using them effectively.
