- Health lesson 4: Menstrual Cycle
- Notes
- Ida went to Naibowa and taught about the health lesson "Menstrual cycle "
She first asked the group if there was anyone who didn't know any thing about the topic above. Every one knew only that men were not sure whether to leave or stay. The women requested men to stay and learn so that they will tell their wives what was taught.
Ida asked why do they think women go through that period? Some said that it's God's plan while others said that it's a curse from the beginning when woman disobeyed. Three of them said they don't know but just find them selves going through that.
Ida gave out calendars to every one that it will make it easy for them to count. The only challenge was that most people couldn't understand any thing on the calendar because they never went to school. Ida had to think of a different way of teaching this lesson that everyone is on board.
She used fingers and each finger has three segments , they started counting each segment up to twenty eight. Ida told them from the day you start, to count it as day one no matter when one starts .
Ida encouraged the group to all assume that they are all starting today,17th Jan. Ida then asked them, When their next period will come? After 28 days one should expect to start again. The counting started but people became more confused. After many times of counting, some started getting the point.
As usual this lesson is one of the difficult ones to understand but Ida teaches it more than two times. Ida told them not to worry because she will teach them again until they all get it.This lesson will encourage parents to prepare their children during adolescence stage. Ida told those who thought that menstruation was a curse to know that it's a blessing given to women to know when they are pregnant.
And also it's another way of which our bodies are cleaned.
Parents must tell boys too about this time when their bodies start changing both boys and girls. If they know of these facts, they will not feel ashamed, laughed at which most times lead to drop out from school. The community was happy and eager to learn more about this topic.r
