Notes
They made a visit in this community to check on the progress of sanitation and hygiene. They first meet with all the local leaders to talk about which challenges they are facing while doing the program. One of the VHTs stood and said since most people are just harvesting, some already harvested there food, they are waiting for it to dry and sell off some surplus so as they can get some money to pay the men who dig latrines. That was a very good challenge but we also told them not everyone in the community is waiting for the harvest. Then they said some are just a little lazy and need more effort and guidance. We asked them which homes are badly off and need more sensitizing. They points out those homes to us. After the short meeting, we walked around those homes to check if there was any progress. The good news is that some of those homes have already made effort to dig new pits, some are working on dish racks and rubbish pits as some are waiting for pick axes to start digging pit latrines. There are some homes which have really made good standard facilities. I was so impressed to see many Brick latrines, shower areas and good facilities in some homes. I encouraged them to start using ash in their latrines to chase flies out and keep proper sanitation inside there latrine houses. We also encouraged those homes which have greatly improved to also encourage their fellow residents to also embrace the program and under the importance of having good sanitation in their community.
