Notes
While in them village, Tom was joined by three committee members who suggested that they move to the upper section of the village. Before moving to the upper section, they visited and checked on the borehole that they said was having issues with water. They said the water in the borehole was low and that they have to wait for periods of time before they can fetch the water. Tom asked them if they have ever brought a mechanic to look at it and they said he had promised to come and open it and share with them what the problems are with the borehole. After they moved from the borehole to the upper section. In there way, they visited homes along the path to the upper section encouraging them about sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as guiding them on facility constructions and maintenance. In one home, Tom thanked the resident for digging a new pit but advised him on using good logs for the construction of the latrine floor while in another home, Tom encouraged the resident to construct another dish rack using the new model. The dish rack had gotten old and had collapsed. In the upper section, they visited and found two homes with new pits for new latrines. In one home, Tom and the committee members encouraged the residents to continue digging so that he can achieve the recommended depth of 15ft or more because he was just at 8ft. He was also encouraged to finish the dish rack that he had started on as it had taken a while without being finished. In another home, it is a home for an elderly woman who has transformed greatly. She has used cement on her shower facility as well as constructing a new dish rack. She had started on a new pit for the new latrine. She said she was waiting to harvest so that she could finish it. Tom thanked her for the great work she had put in to keep her home clean and to standard. The committee members also encouraged her to fix her kitchen so that it stops leaking. In most homes visited, they had new dish racks and some said were still contributing money for the nails to get the dish racks. Tom thanked and encouraged the committee members to continue moving in the village and supporting one another to help sensitizing residents about sanitation and hygiene.
