Notes
While Tom was in the village, he was accompanied by the chairman of the village as well,as,four committee members and together they moved from the upper section of the village towards the lower section. They moved checking on homes that still are yet to finish there latrines and one of the homes was for a young couple that recently got married and have started on a new pit. The young lady was very happy happy that finally her husband has started on a new pit. Tom and the committee members encouraged and discussed with the lady about the standards of the pit so that it meets the standards. In one other home, they visited and found the man whom they encouraged to improve on his latrine structure as it was not in good shape. He said he was going to get new bricks and construct a new structure on the pit. The chairman also pointed out homes that had constructed the hand washing stand but had not put cement on them. As they moved around, they were also encouraging those residents about finishing their hand washing stands by putting a cement coating on them to keep them stronger and durable. As the moved, Tom was also asking residents about how they feel about the hand washing stations. One lady said it had improved on the hand washing in her home especially with the children. She said her children now are very cautious about washing hands and that they even remind each other and compete for washing and refilling the jerican. She also said putting it on the path from the latrine has also helped them always wash their hands as its hard to pass the jerican when it’s just along the path. In another home, the woman said she is very happy for her hand washing stand as it has also encouraged her, children to wash their hands after using the latrine. Tom encouraged most residents to continue encouraging their children about hand washing as well as themselves.
