- Notes
- When Enock and Martin arrived in this community, they walked to the Chairman’s home and meet with the VHTs who were waiting for them. They walked in the upper section of the village where they where teaching, sensitizing, encouraging, emphasizing, evaluating and guiding the residents how to improve on the standards of their structures in those homes which already completed the latrine and shower area construction. They guided them to use cement at the top of shower areas, promoted the use of ash in latrines as they carried out a demonstration in one of the latrine that had many houseflies. They reminded he community residents on the many diseases which are brought about by poor sanitation and open defecation case in point diarrhea which even leads to death of children and a lot of medical expenses, poor health and more problems. As they continued walking around the village they guided residents how to construct good sanitation facilities and encouraging proper maintenance of all the facilities. They taught some families how to construct good hand washing station and dish racks as they emphasized on the core values of washing hands before eating anything. There has been increase in the use of latrine and reduce of open defecation since many people have understood the importance of sanitation and hygiene. The chairman and VHTs are so happy to see there community is transforming well and the people they thought of being hard to convince to have latrine but we managed to talk to them to improve their homes. Most of the pick axes are so busy digging new pit latrines and we found some community residents busy digging latrine pits.
