Notes
Tape, Suzan and Jessica went to the village to teach the community members about the materials that will be used for building the stoves and to show the members how to chop the grass into tiny pieces. However, they reached the village in time and found some members already gathered at the meeting place next to the mosque. The members were so glad to see Kibo staff and welcomed them with songs of joy. Along with them they carried the three types of grass meant for building the stoves although not all of them carried the right grass. Kibo staff welcomed all the members for coming to the meeting and explained how the activity was going to be carried out that day. The members were requested to spread a large paper bag on the floor where everyone would be able to sit with a handful of grass placed on a piece of log in preparation for the demonstration. Kibo staff went ahead and first demonstrated how the grass was held and chopped into tiny pieces because the members needed to be careful as they held the grass to avoid cutting their fingers. Tape began chopping the grass as the members watched critically and then Suzan,Jessica walked around the members showing them how to handle the grass and panga in a right direction. Later on, the members began practicing chopping the grass until everyone learnt. Kibo staff also showed them the right type of grass to be used for building the stoves as well as requesting them to continue chopping it whenever they found free time until it made at least one bag. The members agreed to be collecting and chopping the grass while smearing their buildings starting from the kitchens in preparation of building the first demonstrations stoves. Kibo staff thanked all the members for participating in the activity that day and together they fixed a date and time that the next meeting would take place. The meeting finally came to an end wishing one another a happy stay.
