- Notes
- Enock and Martin went to this community to continue teaching, encouraging behavior change from open defecation to construction latrine and promote good sanitation and hygiene. There are many homes which we visited and have embraced the challenges and moving towards improving on latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, clean compounds and many more. When we walked around, we saw many new latrines which are well constructed and roofed with grass. There are shower rooms which have been constructed but no cement around the top. We focused on that and encouraged all the residents about the importance of cement on top of a shower building so as it can be sustainable. We also encouraged them to make good floors inside the shower aprons so as they make good drainage systems and keep the shower rooms neat.
There has been a family for a while they had dug a pit and now they are constructing a brick and cement structures. We also guided the residents about the proper maintenance of sanitation in their homes, standardization of all the facilities. After we all focused on homes that are still using the pick axes and digging new rubbish pits and latrine holes. We also monitored and taught dish rack construction, hand washing stations construction and uses. There are already 7 newly constructed hand washing stations which are built, few homes have jerrycans. They are waiting for kibo wash team to deliver to them some jerrycans so as they can start using their hand washing stations. We encouraged them to be using there own jerrycans as they wait for some other homes to also complete the hand washing stations so that we can deliver to them at once.
