Notes
This was a general village meeting to introduce the water program to all the village people. Alex broke the news officially to the village that Kibo had committed to give water to Kisiro village. Two wells are to be drilled in Kisiro village because of its great need and large size. The village was extremely happy to hear the good news from Kibo group considering to support the village with two wells. Kisiro village was divided up into eight sections because of its large population and size. Majority of the people still access water from the swamp. WASH has been very active in this village for the last 3 years and realized that there was a great need for water in the village and the village is very big that even one well cant be enough to Kisiro. Alex told the village that it was important for everyone to participate during this whole process as Kibo is preparing the village before the well drilling. Kibo group doesn’t just wake up one morning to drill a well without involving the village to know how to take good care of the well. The village should work together and avoid dividing themselves in fighting for where the borehole is to be drilled. From the beginning Kibo group works with people and only brings people to work together. The people should not fight for the borehole and where to drill the borehole. The village leaders expressed their appreciation again to Kibo group for working with Kisiro and confessed that Kibo group is the only NGO that has ever worked in their village. It has encouraged all the people without discrimination and helped the village reach this sanitation level. Back in the days before Kibo group came to Kisiro, the rate of open defecation was very high because very few people had pit latrines. Human feaces was seen almost every where in the village and by the road side as it was observed the day Kibo group carried out triggering in open defecation. This has gone away and no more people defecating in the open. Kisiro village for the last three years has-greatly improved and learnt the values of proper sanitation and hygiene and even those that had never owned a pit latrine in their homes now do have them. The chairman LC2 and parish chief were very thankful to Kibo group for the tremendous job done that even the government had never done in the whole parish. Alex told all the village members to maintain this sanitation and hygiene standards at all times and never to go back in the old days. Kibo group will be happy that all the kids in Kisiro village grow up healthy knowing the values of sanitation and hygiene. 8 households that had been lagging behind have also stepped up to improve their sanitation standards including Dostana Owere that had never owned a pit latrine before but now completed a 20ft pit latrine .A temporary water user committee was selected comprising of 7 people, 4 men and three women to spear head this water program in the village. Kirya Moses was selected by the village to head the committee. WASH will go back to train this water committee on what to do during this process as the village gets prepared before the well drilling.
