Notes
Introduction It’s the beginning of a new term therefore Lorna went to meet the Life Skills pupils to reevaluate the topic HIV Awareness on whether the pupils still remember anything after their School break. Overview Lorna reached when it was still break time and therefore had to wait for break time to get over before meeting the pupils. When break time was over, Lorna entered the class where she was welcomed by the pupils who were excited to see her. Lorna started by asking the pupils how they were, what they did in the holidays where some said they read their books, helped their parents in the gardens among other things. After the catchup, Lorna mentioned they were not going to learn but review the whole HIV topic. Lorna told the pupils to close their books so they remind themselves then Lorna asked what HIV in full was and what AIDS was in full. She picked on 2 pupils who came and wrote the answers on the board. They looked at HIV transmission, prevention, immune system and the components and their functions that is of the red and white blood cells. They looked at cure or treatment where Lorna emphasized that HIV/AIDS does not cure and should not be deceived by the traditional doctors who go about in the villages selling medicines saying they can cure AIDS because it’s not true. About why women are at more risk of getting HIV than the men Lorna emphasized on women not giving birth at the hospitals and discussed the risks involved and encouraged the pupils to encourage their parents to give birth to the hospitals. After the review was finished,Lorna finished by asking them why they are studying about HIV or why was it important that they study it. One pupil mentioned so they can prevent themselves and their loved ones from getting infected or from Transmission. Also that they can tell others the facts and myths surrounding HIV/AIDS. It was very important to do this before introducing another topic so that the pupils may catchup and get warmed up for the upcoming topics. Conclusion It was a great day with great interactions and also Lorna got a chance to talk to the pupils briefly about the exhibition day and they said they were excited about this day. The Headteacher thanked Lorna for continuous effort in guiding the pupils and asked whether she was a professional teacher which she said no. Lorna wished them a great week and left for Jinja.
