Notes
This was the first water meeting in this community to introduce the water program. Alex first asked the village what they have managed to achieve in their community since Kibo joined to work with Igerera B. Three people put up their hands and proudly said that they have benefited a lot from Kibo group but the main one being learning the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene. They have also learnt that hand washing after visiting the pit latrine is very important. One lady called Rose was amazing when she said that Kibo group has indeed helped their village understand the values of sanitation and hygiene and above all the rate of diseases caused by poor sanitation and hygiene has indeed gone away. Many of the kids and adults used to suffer from diseases like diarrhea, typhoid and other diseases related to poor sanitation, but that is no more in the recent times since Kibo put in a lot of time educating and sensitizing the vill about proper hygiene and sanitation. On top of that Kibo partnered with them to roof their pit latrines with iron sheets and provided Jerrycans for hand washing. Igerera B is now exceptional and all the neighboring villages admire it’s status. Alex then broke the news that Kibo group has considered to provide a new well to them. They however have to participate and work together as a community by contributing some money towards building the concrete fence and money for the borehole account to meet any future breakdown. Also this well is supposed to unite everyone in the village and should not divide them by fighting for where the well can be drilled. Alex then guided the village to come up with a water user committee that would spear head the this program in the village making sure that all the people are involved and contribute money needed. On the other hand, the community is working together to build a concrete fence on the existing well and they are putting money together to have it built soon. Alex encouraged the committee members and the village members to complete this process as well and appreciated them for having that sense of borehole ownership. Another meeting will be held next week Monday to continue training the new water committee through their roles and responsibilities and preparing the village before the borehole survey expected soon.
