- Notes
- Harriet made a surprise visit to Ikumbya and this was intended to assess the level of sustainability of the Healthy and Safe kitchen program.
This was because she has taken a couple of months from the time she last visited this community so she wanted to know whether people still cook on their stoves or they quit since she has taken a while with out visiting the village.
She reached in the village and started walking around the homes and found when all the members have maintained their stoves that is well smeared and being cooked on daily basis . This was evidenced by the absence of three stone fire and finding food cooking by itself in some homes.
Jerimina Ntalo one of the member told Harriet the stove has helped her to get money to buy scholastic materials for her children. She said that the stove has as well increased the marriage relationship in their village because their husbands are served their food on time.
The chairperson of the village called Batale told Harriet that they are now reduced cases of domestic violence because even their husbands are now attracted to help their wives to cook food.
He also added that some members started building stoves to the neighboring communities thus earning an income to support their families.
Harriet encouraged them to keep on maintaining their stoves.
