Notes
Tom on his visit to Mpumiro village, was joined by four committee members and the vice chairman of the village to move around and check on sanitation and hygiene improvements in the village. They started walking from the chairman’s home towards bunaibani village checking on facility constructions and improvements in every home in that section. In the first three homes from the chairman’s home, two had new pits while another home they promised they would start on digging a new pit because the old latrine is getting full. Tom discussed and shared with the resident the dangers his old latrine brings to his home and family. This is because the latrine was so full that is could even flood. The pit also was showing signs of collapsing due to the rotting of the logs. In another home, Tom and the committee members encouraged a resident who had finished digging the pit but was waiting for cement and brings to construct the latrine. They appreciated her for her efforts and encouraged her to work hard. One of the committee members offered the old lady bricks at a cheaper price. In one home, the resident also had finished digging the pit and it was at a depth of 25 ft. He had also finished constructing a new dish rack and a shower facility. Tom and the committee members thanked the residents for working hard to help his family improve in sanitation and hygiene. They also encouraged him to continue working on other facilities like the hand washing stands as well as the kitchen for his home. The vice chairman also had finished a new dish rack and promised to work and improve in his latrine by roofing it was well as improving on the wall. Tom and the committee members encouraged the vice chairman to spearhead improvements in sanitation and hygiene in his area and said he will always be moving around and checking on residents. Tom also shared with the committee members about taking visitors to there village and said they will be happy to host them.
