- Notes
- Harriet visited Sinde village and this was intended to assess the level of sustainability of the Healthy and Safe kitchen program.
The chairperson of the Healthy and Safe kitchen program (Matilda) led Harriet through the homes of the participants. It was very interesting to see most members using their stoves on daily basis except. However she also came a cross two members who were using a stove along side the three stones and this forced her to find out the reason why.
The members told Harriet that the reason why they abandoned her stove is because the smoke is blown inside the kitchen when ever they try to cook on them. Harriet got an opportunity to ask them to assess the wind direction and it was realized that the stoves were built on the opposite side of wind direction. Therefore inside of wind blowing fire it just blows smoke into the kitchen.
Harriet advised the group to come together and build for these participants other stoves in consideration of the wind direction. She also told the members to be cooperative and accept to be advised to avoid mistakes.
Also the members had developed an idea of building stoves that can cook three things at ago and a demonstration stove was built in Gusino Isaac’s compound for the public. Harriet asked them on how they protect it from it being rained on and they said for the mean while they always cover it when rain comes and they plan to build a shelter on it.
The group told Harriet that some schools have approached them to build for them such big stoves. They were wondering on how much they should charge and who should participate. Harriet advised them to meet as a group and discuss on how much and who should participate, how much to charge. She also advised them to choose among themselves those ones they are very sure that they learnt how to build stoves.
The participants thanked kibo for visiting, advising and encouraging them , they also promised to use Kibo’s example to help the neighboring communities.
