- Notes
- When Tom arrived to the village, he was welcomed by the chairman at his home who was carrying out a village adult registration exercise along with some of his committee members.
The chairman said he was not going to be able to move around but he delegated two of his committee members to walk around the village with Tom.
They started moving from the chairman’s home towards the primary school along the road towards the trading center. They decided to move to that section because one of the vhts had wanted them to see what her section of the village was doing in sanitation and hygiene improvements.
The road was bad to walk on but they managed to reach the vhts section of the village. She took Tom and the committee members to one home which had a new latrine, a new dish rack and they were constructing the kitchen as well. Tom and the committee members appreciated the resident for the efforts he had put in to improve his home. Tom also encouraged him about the hand washing stand. Even though the day was a little drizzly, the committee members and Tom decided to move to other homes in that section to see what residents were doing. In Four home, they were able to see new rubbish pits and three home had new shower facilities. Tom also encouraged the residents to buy cement to put a line of brick on on the shower facility to give the shower facilities more durability. In one home they found a collapsed Latrine. The resident promised to start on a new pit soon. He said he would have been done but the rains were making it harder for him to dig the pit. Tom also encouraged him to use better logs as it was weaker logs on the old latrine that let to it’s collapse.
