- Notes
- Suzan went to the village with a purpose of monitoring the stove usage and the maintenance of the other healthy and safe kitchens facilities such as the smearing of the shower areas, latrines, kitchens and dish racks.
When she got there, she met some of the community program leaders already gathered at the church where the meetings usually take place. Suzan was warmly welcomed and together they sat down and first discussed about the progress of the program activities such as the smearing and stove building.
The chairperson informed Suzan how they have managed to save some money out of stove building and bought some gifts for themselves such as mattresses, bicycles, saucepans, plates, glasses and beddings. Thereafter, they got up and began moving around the village visiting home to home while monitoring different facilities and during the process, some members had improved on their general sanitation and hygiene within their homes and all their latrines, shower areas, kitchens and dish racks were in good state.
Others were just repairing their facilities saying the rains had destroyed most of them. Some members were found cooking on their fuel efficient stoves and reported how they had really improved on their healthy lives especially for the women who no longer suffered from smoke inhalation and chest diseases. They also said they spent less time cooking in the kitchens because it cooked so fast like electricity and used less firewood.
Suzan encouraged them to always maintain all their facilities so that they lived a happy healthy life with their families and to keep the same spirit of working together as a team for an effective development.
The members thanked Suzan for the visit and advice given and the meeting came to an end wishing her a safe journey back home.
