While in the village, Tom,and three committee members moved around the village in the upper section checking on new facilities being constructed as well as those being improved upon and maintained. In the first home they found when the elderly woman had replaced her collapsed shower. Tom advised her to use cement to construct the last two lines of brick in the shower to give it more strength while her neighbor had also reconstructed the broken latrine. In another home, they found when the resident was,constructing his kitchen and his wife was,very excited as this was her first kitchen. Tom encouraged him to roof his kitchen and make it comfortable for his wife. Tom asked him why for so long he did not have t have a kitchen and said that due to kibo staff members encouraging him several times, he was encouraged but also felt ashamed seeing his wife cooking in the rain especially this rain season. He also said there is a day he did not eat because the rain was too much and his wife could not cook from out side and inside his house there is no roof for setting up the three stone cooking area. This encouraged him to start on the kitchen and said he will finish it before the Christmas Day. Tom and the committee members encouraged many residents to replace collapsed facilities especially showers and encouraged them to use cement to construct the last lines of brick on the shower. Tom was also encouraged by the maintenance of dish racks and encouraged the committee members to continue encouraging residents to maintain the existing facilities as well as constructing new ones.
