The only existing borehole that was drilled by Kibo group sometime back in this village broke down during the Christmas period and the village is currently struggling to get clean water as they have to move to the nearby swamp and shallow well that was dug in the swamp. This water is unsafe for drinking and the village leaders have requested Kibo to open up the borehole and find out the problem with the well. This same well was some few years back repaired by Kibo group by installing new stainless pipes and rods. The village is very ready to fix it by themselves if they get to know the problem with their well. Also they have some how lost trust with their Hand Pump Mechanic since for more than three times he has fixed the same issue and that’s why they have requested Kibo group to intervene this time round since Kibo group is currently working in the village. The situation is for sure not good as Alex witnessed many people fetching water on their Jerrycans from the swamp and so he promised to come back soon to open up the well since they are ready to purchase anything part that is needed and save many people from contracting Bilharzia in the village since they had so many of these cases sometime back when they used to get water from this very swamp before Kibo drilled the borehole in the village. Alex then visited some homes in the upper section and witnessed more new pits that have been dug and encouraged people to construct the structures as soon as possible. It was observed that there has been a great improvement in new pit latrine construction in the village during the festive season. The sanitation committee has agreed together to push the people to work hard this month before they get busy with the garden work in the coming months. WASH will continue to follow up on all the construction of all the required sanitation facilities as well as to asses if the village is ready to have second/ middle survey conducted. Also to plan soon to conduct hand washing triggering in the village since there are many people that got pit latrines in the village and need to learn the importance of hand washing in the village.

2020-01-27 - Purpose: To follow up on sanitation improvements as well as open up the broken well to find out the fault

There is a great sanitation improvement in the village seeing people with new pits in the village

Program Critical Needs

Their village well broke down on 23/12/2019 and have not yet figured out the issue. The village has requested Kibo group to open it up and tell the village the problem before getting a solution to fix it .

The water and sanitation committee is very committed and working very closely to encourage the village to work on their sanitation
