Notes
Steven and Alex were in Ndhalike to follow up on construction of sanitation facilities and guide on standards. It was noted in the previous visit that there were many open pits that were dug and only waiting on construction of structures, many people are thinking of collecting money to construct slabs since they have spent a lot of time digging deep pits. WASH has got now a task to talk to all the people with open pits to somehow speed up the work of constructing on these open pits. Also the village people had requested kibo group to help them open up the well that had broken down and tell them the fault on their well before buying the parts required. On a very good note, the village went on and called the hand pump mechanic who got it back to work again however there is more work needed to do to fully get it fixed. It needs a new cylinder, two new rods that broke down and a pedestal will need to be replaced as well. The water user committee was reminded to tell all the water users to clean their Jerrycans always and clean the borehole compound as well. The village is also thinking of constructing a permanent brick wall around the well since they have used a lot of poles and nails to construct a fence. WASH staffs will guide them on how to go about this in the next meeting as the village will have a meeting with kibo to discuss about speeding up the sanitation process and conduct hand washing triggering lesson in the village. The village will be guided also on better standards of structure standards instead of the expensive way that is hard to most people. Those that have not yet roofed their pit latrines will be encouraged to do so and also talk about Kibo’s support to help a household get an iron sheet to roof a pit latrine structure with a percentage and not think it’s for everyone in the village as some can afford to buy on their own. WASH will go back to attend the sanitation meeting and teach about hand washing

10235 This borehole had broken down since December 23/2019 but recently the village came together and fixed it. They had first requested kibo to open it and find out the fault but couldn’t wait any longer and were able to fix it
