Notes
Alex met with the village leaders to discuss about the baseline results and plan for triggering in the village. Having completed the village baseline survey two weeks ago, the village leaders needed to know about their village sanitation standards and plan on away forward to get the village to the required sanitation standards. During the baseline survey, 150 households were reached in the village and it showed 62% latrine coverage and 38% were missing, very low hand washing levels and fewer bathrooms. When Alex shared these results with the leaders, they agreed that indeed more is needed to be done in their village. While in the meeting, the village ledgers all agreed that it’s an opportunity for them to help their village reach greater heights partnering with kibo group and they are 100% willing to cooperate with kibo group to put their village at another level raising sanitation standards. Together they agreed that 14/02/2020 as the day for triggering in open defecation and teach about proper sanitation practices and hygiene standards. Also the venue was selected to be at the church being the center of the village. The village leaders also promised to mobilize the neighboring villages of Irondo and Buganza to attend this important meeting. The village leaders also confessed that it was a rare chance they have got and many leaders from other villages will be coming to them asking how they got this opportunity. It was one sign to show that the village leadership structure was active and strong and this makes work easier for WASH. However the borehole status is alarming as all the people are worried that their borehole would breakdown any time soon. WASH will continue to go back to the village to meet with the drama group and the leader to mobilize the village for the meeting and prepare for triggering day.
