Notes
Tom made and visit to kisumu village to meet with the leaders of the village to discuss issues of sanitation in the village and introduce kibo to the village leaders. When he arrived in the village, he found there was a parents meeting at the primary school where most of the people had gone to discuss about their primary school before it started. But Tom was welcomes by residents after he went to two men and introduced himself as their visitor from kibo. They later called the chairman of the village who had earlier shared with some of his committee members about Tom’s visit. He came with some of his committee members and later other residents joined them in the meeting. Tom shared with them about kibo and its intentions in the village but specifically sanitation and hygiene improvements. The chairman was very happy for that. He also emphasized and reported of the of the critical need of sanitation and many latrines were destroyed and collapsed during the rainy season. He showed Tom on of the latrines that had collapsed recently. Tom also with no much emphasis asked about there borehole in the trading center of kisimu. The chairman report that the borehole dries up at times and many others times they have to wait for hours before they can pump water. They said during that time they visit the nearby borehole which is very crowded and for those that need water urgently, they have to go to the swamp. The chairman and some of his committee members said this has caused many sickness as the water of the swamp is very dirty. As they discussed Tom observed some new latrines being dug and those that were recently constructed. Tom also observed some new shower facilities. Because the chairman and the committee members had to go to the primary school for the parents meeting, the meeting had to be cut short and Tom left for jinja. Tom promised that he would communicate back to the leaders of the village for s day or opening the borehole and assessing the need. Tom also encouraged them not to be scared but rather to work with kibo to improve their village.
