Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Jessica and Suzan went to the village to follow up on the smearing of the buildings and the stove usage. When they arrived there, they went to the chairperson’s home madam Farida and found some members already gathered who warmly welcomed them to the village. Together they exchanged greetings and then discussed a few things concerning the progress of the healthy and safe kitchens program. The chairperson informed Kibo staff how they had managed to build about 11 fuel efficient stoves for other members in their village who didn’t have kitchens by then which was so encouraging. Later after, they got up and began walking around the village visiting home while monitoring different facilities. During the whole process most members had greatly improved on their hygiene and sanitation and had well smeared all their buildings such as the kitchens, bathrooms, latrines and stoves. Some members were found very busy smearing their stoves and cooking on them. A few of the members about six of them still had no good kitchens and other facilities which needed repair. Most members with good facilities had firewood storages in their kitchens which was also very impressive to see. Kibo staff thanked all the members for participating in the program activities and maintaining their facilities, encouraging them to always maintain the same spirit of working together as a team and also to see that they assisted other members who were elderly and vulnerable in improving and repairing their facilities. The members were so grateful for the advice given, promising to do so and the meeting came to an end wishing each other a happy stay.
