Notes
Abraham met thirty six Kiteigalwa community members and the purpose was to discuss how they will give loans to the members from their savings. The chairman Mr Eremye Iduma told the group that they have been borrowing money from the bank and the interest was so high and that is why they came up with the idea of saving and loaning within the group. He said that they know each other well because they can tell who will bring back the money and those who will not. They are all grow rice and if they empower some members they can do better than they are today. Abraham advised the group to think about where they started from so that they can know how to go forward. He told them to be vigilant because some people may join the group with motive of getting loan and disappearing, that may start to weaken the group but they need to write some by-law that will govern the loaning system like how long the will take for someone to finish paying back, how much they will be giving to each member, even to make sure when someone borrows that has to sign somewhere so that if he or she fails to pay they have a document that shows that he borrowed money from the group. Lastly he told them to go and consult from other groups that gives loans to the members so that they can learn from them. They said they will go to consult from a group called Mayuge SACCO and then they will meet and discuss what they will get from that group.
