- Notes
- Harriet made a surprise visit to to Kitukiro and this was intended to follow up on the usage of stoves, smearing of the home facilities and the construction of firewood risen stands for firewood storage.
The Healthy and Safe kitchen program had taken a while with out checking with this village so they needed to reach out to them to monitor progress. Harriet reached in the village when no one was expecting her and started walking around the homes monitoring progress.
She found when most people were cooking on their stoves on daily basis basis . However some five homes were found cooking on the stoves but also had the three stones in the kitchens that seemed to be used some times.
Harriet took an advantage to find out the cause so that a Solution can be found. One of the participants Mrs . Gonza told her that the family is known for providing traditional medicine to the community and according to their traditional faith the medicine should only be cooked on the stove that has never cooked food and since they treasure their stoves to be used to cook food that is cooked on daily basis. They opted to use the traditional three stones to cook their traditional medicine since it done occasionally.
Harriet encouraged them to build an extra stove in the kitchen to take of the traditional medicine to avoid problems like smoke, fire accidents among other.
Mrs. Gonza thanked Harriet for her polite advise and promised to talk to the group and ask them to build for her a second stove.
Also some people who were found with the three stones in their kitchens alongside the fuel efficient stove attributed the act to be done by the children who don’t know to use the fuel efficient stoves.
Harriet advised them to discourage the act and teach their children the value of these stoves as well as how best to use them.
As far as smearing and firewood storage is concerned most people had back slide and Harriet encouraged them to improve. The participants thanked kibo for checking with them and promised to improve on their facilities.
