Notes
Alex had gone back to Kisiro to meet with the new water user committee and the rest of the community to discuss about how they plan to manage and take of their well when they start to use it and there by guiding the village to enact their borehole bylaws which is another requirement needed before the well is commissioned. However, the bylaws were not able to be enacted because majority of the people in the village had gone for a burial in the next village. Almost all the water user committee members were present and a few village people turned up. Alex then decided to have a short meeting with them about what people in the village think about this new borehole wall fence. The water user committee members confessed that many of the people think its a wonderful idea as it rules out the tendency of people stealing wood from the boreholes. Many people from the neighboring villages have visited Kisiro to look at how this fence was constructed and want to do the same in their villages too. This is still a new idea in the making from Kibo group and looks like it will be the way to go from now on after getting positive feed back from the two villages of Kisiro and Igerera B where we have tested out the wall fence. Alex then told the water committee members to get a bag of cement and complete the remaining work to add some strength to the wall and also dig a big water channel up the well to channel a lot of running water that flows from the upper side and be diverted else where in order not to damage the wall fence. The people were eager to start using the well but Alex insisted they needed to complete all the steps before the well is commissioned. The next meeting will be intended to guide the village as they enact their borehole bylaws and encouraged all people to turn up for this important meeting. Also the chairman of the water user committee, Mr. Kirya Moses has decided to start a new saving group of 100 people who meet every Sunday and save money together but also make sure every individual in the group has all the sanitation facilities in their homes something that kibo started in the village. He says that Kibo Group got Kisiro from a very bad state to something now and they don’t want that to stop when kibo leaves their village one day. This was something very big noted on my visit to Kisiro and hope this will help to keep the sanitation standards up in the village as all the group visit each other’s home to make sure they have all these facilities before one can receive money from the group.
