Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Harriet, Suzan and Jessica went to the village to carry out the first evaluation process. This was to be done after seeing that each member had got a fuel efficient stove in their kitchens. It was also intended to measure or identify any changes/improvements in the community after each one got a stove. When Kibo staff got there, they were welcomed by the program chairperson at the meeting center and Harriet explained to him the purpose of the visit that day which was important. They then divided themselves into two groups (Harriet and the chairperson),(Suzan and Jessica), this would make the whole process much more easier because the evaluation process needed time since it involved moving house to house while asking the participants questions concerning the healthy and safe kitchens program. Evaluating the community was important because it helped Kibo staff to find out if the new stoves had really improved on their lives and if they were no longer facing challenges they used to have while cooking on their old three stones open flames. During the whole process, Kibo staff observed that the members had greatly improved on their general sanitation and hygiene in their homes and had maintained most of their facilities. At the end of the day about 16 homes were evaluated that day in Nawandyo B but because of the weather and a sudden call that Jessica received from home concerning her sick daughter who was taken to an emergency hospital , Kibo staff planned to carry out another evaluation process in Nawandyo A in the coming village visit.
