Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Harriet, Suzan, Ida,Tape and Jessica went to the village to take some incentives/gifts to the participants as as sign of appreciation for the hard work done in the healthy and safe kitchens program. When they got there, they found some members and their local leaders already gathered at the meeting place. The members happily welcomed Kibo staff with smiles, and after settling down and exchanging greetings with one another, the village chairperson Mr. Nndalike opened the meeting with a prayer and later on read through the meeting agenda to the crowd. Each person in the meeting was then given a chance to introduce themselves once again because it was quite along time since they last met. Harriet on behalf of Kibo staff, welcomed the members to the meeting and then requested all the group leaders from different L.Cs such as Nawandyo A and Nawandyo B to briefly make updates concerning the healthy and safe kitchens program activities. Both the leaders stood up and first appreciated Kibo staff for the stove program, saying that it has greatly changed and improved on their lives in a way that the members especially their wives no longer suffered from smoke inhalation, fire burns, lung and eye infections and taking long hours in the forest searching for firewood. They went ahead praising Kibo group about the sanitation and hygiene lessons, saying most of the members who had poor facilities before, managed to construct new ones such as building new stronger latrines, shower areas, dish racks and kitchens which was so impressive to hear. Later after, Harriet got up and introduced Ida to the members saying she would be the next person to introduce a new Kibo program once they accepted her. Ida briefly explained a few things concerning her program and then asked the members if they were ready for it. Surprisingly, all the members were so excited for the new program and much willing to attend to it. Harriet then informed the members how they were going to receive a few gifts that day as a sign of appreciation for the good work done, and On hearing the good news, the members got up with excitement and began dancing and singing on top of their voices which attracted more members to come to the meeting. As they continued singing, Kibo staff went and picked a bag of gifts from the vehicle which consisted of bars of washing soap, and two large saucepans. The participants got so excited on seeing them and even danced more harder!... Both the leaders from two l.cs were called and handed the gifts on behalf of the participants especially the saucepans which they would be sharing together during important occasions such as community celebrations, funerals and many more. Each member present was handed a piece of soap as a sign of maintaining hygiene and sanitation after every home activities. The chairperson leaders appreciated the love and gifts given to them and promised to always maintain their facilities as much as possible and the meeting finally came to an end with a prayer from one of the leaders.
