Notes
Introduction It’s been 2 months since coved broke out in Uganda so , Lorna went to this village to meet with the village committee council to know how they are doing and pave a way forward. Overview Lorna went to Nabituluntu village to meet with the village council to discuss a way forward for the Life Skills Program in this village. Driving through the village, Lorna noticed there were hardly anyone wearing a mask and when she got to the village at the meeting place , she found a jerrycan with soap set up at the meeting place and the chairs set up with social distance. When the committee members had come, they talked about the civic situation and what measures they have put in place to protect themselves. They mentioned washing hands, keeping their distance , not shaking hands or hugging , not meeting up in big gatherings. However Lorna also noticed that they had a washing facility and soap but none of the members washed their hands and so Lorna asked why they did not do it yet they said they were practicing washing their hands, they said that they all washed their hands from home but Lorna and her driver came from Jinja and for us we were to wash our hands. This was funny but Lorna encouraged them that when they are to meet everyone would be required to wash their hands and just emphasized on the importance of washing hands. Lorna also asked them if the children are also doing the same and they said yes they can’t even shake your hands. Lorna said that was great and also asked them on how studying on the radios was going and they said not so good because the pupils and students don’t understand . They are not able to ask questions . Lorna asked the parents to help them understand , have the students come together and study together as well as have them revise their books so they keep up with knowledge. About the program going forward Lorna asked the members how they feel about resuming the lessons. They were very receptive but were wondering how will we be meeting since the government has banned public gatherings . Lorna explained how the program would be running and that is having to meet 2 homes per day with about 7 people since this is with in the government measure of social distancing and also having masks on as well as having a hand washing facility. They said that this was good however half of them wanted to start right away while the other half wanted to wait more. They also wanted to hear the presidents speech if there was any new measure put in place. Lorna responded and thanked them for being honest and told they she wouldn’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable with their presence and they agreed that Lorna should call back to followup in a weeks time on when they should resume the program. Conclusion Lorna tried to shake hands with a young girl as they were heading out just out of curiosity if what they said in the meeting was true. The girl brought her hand to shake Lorna’s but Lorna advised her not to shake hands so that she does not get the bad virus covid. Lorna thanked them members for coming and promised to followup or have them call her.
