Notes
Tom moved around the village with three committee members and they moved on the lower section as well as a section of the upper. In the lower section they found three new latrines recently constructed and one under construction. Tom encouraged those that are yet to finish their latrines to work hard and finish them. Tom also encouraged the residents on the construction of standard dish racks as some of the dish racks they had constructed below standard had already collapsed. In one home, Tom advised the resident to increase on the height of the latrine wall and also put a roof on it in order to give it durability. Some of the residents were happy and appreciated kibo for the work they have done to improve on the sanitation of the village and one resident was very happy that Covid came when their village was improved. He said because of Kibo’s work and lessons on hand washing, it was easy or has made it easy and safe for them to stay healthy. On the upper section there were two new latrines and one under construction. Tom and the committee members encouraged the resident on building a mud floor first and later building the wall of the mud floor. This gives the wall a stable foundation. The resident said he will do that. In another home of the VHT, they found when her husband had recently constructed a new Latrine. Tom encouraged her to advise him to put a roof on the walls otherwise they would collapse. As Tom and the committee members left her home, she openly spoke of her thanks towards kibo for encouraging them to improve. She said if it was not for kibo, she really had no hope of getting a latrine in her home. Tom was happy but also encouraged her to work on other facilities. Tom and the committee members went in other homes encouraging residents to maintain and after Tom left for jinja.
