Tom made a visit to kalalu village to demonstrate the construction of a new model dish rack.
When he arrived in the village, he found when the committee members where waiting at the chairman’s home. Tom first started the meeting by sharing and discussing with the committee members about how they have gone about by the encouraging residents about hand washing and the construction of hand washing stands.
He also asked how many among the committee members had constructed the hand washing stand.
Five members said they had already constructed the hand washing stands and three said they were going to construct soon.
They also reported that residents have been positive about the construction of the hand washing stands. Tom encouraged them to lead by example by making sure they have the stands in their homes in order to improve on hand washing.
When time came for the construction of the dish rack, the chairman brought the poles and together Tom guided the committee members on how the dish rack is constructed.
After it was done, the committee members liked the model as it requires fewer nails and easy to construct. They also appreciated that it is constructed on the ground instead of in the ground which protects it from termites.
Tom encouraged the committee members to construct the dish racks in their homes so that residents can learn from them. Tom also encouraged the committee members to be agents of improved sanitation and hygiene in their village.
