Notes
Harriet and Jeska went to Kalitumba to follow up on stove usage and smearing of the home facilities. This was a surprise visit because they wanted to find them in their day to day life. Fore instance if they were not using their stoves they will find the three stones fire in their kitchens. They reached in the village unexpectedly and asked the chairperson LC1 and the chairperson of the Healthy and Safe kitchens program Mrs. Dina to walk with them in different homes because they know all of them. They found a few home with hand washing facilities to prevent covid 19 which was good. Also some people had smeared their kitchens and other facilities but the majority had stopped smearing their home facilities . Kibo staff reminded them about the value of smearing that is helps the facilities to last longer and look neat. Most people had gone to their gardens however kibo staff was able to look at their facilities and leave the message behind with either the two leaders they walked with or the children found at home. Also some people who saw kibo staff reaching their homes which were not swept, some had the three stones fire alongside the fuel efficient stove decided to runaway from their homes because they felt guilty and ashamed for not implementing kibo programs. This was also a good sign that they realized their mistakes hopefully next time they will change. Also one participants( Rose Byakika) told kibo staff that the reason why she was cooking on the three stones alongside the fuel efficient stove was that she finds it hard to roast maize on the fuel efficient stove thus opted to roast on open flames that was easy for her. Kibo staff ( Harriet and Jeska practically )taught her how she can roast maize on the fuel efficient stove that will help her to use less firewood and limit the cases of fire accidents.when she saw it work she was impressed and immediately decided to take out three stones from her kitchen because she saw how the fuel efficient stoves can be used to roast maize as well. She thanked kibo for being patient with them and politely teaching them despite the village being slow.she also promised to be an ambassador and sensitize others about the same. The chairperson LC1 and Dina (the chairperson of Healthy and Safe kitchen program ) and thanked kibo for the love and promised to actively works with them until the village changers for better to achieve development because they believe that through working together the village can achieve more.
