Notes
Tom visited Mpumiro village to check on improvements being made in sanitation and hygiene. When he arrived in the village, he met when the chairman of the village was waiting for him at his home as well as two other committee members. Tom discussed with them about the progress of the program in the village as well as the efforts being made in fighting the spread of covid 19. The chairman of the village said they have continued to sensitize residents about covid as well as sanitation improvements but said the response had not been very positive. Tom encouraged them to continue encouraging the village residents and because its very important. Tom also encouraged them that kibo was back in the village and will continue to support them in the efforts as well. Tom reminded them about the iron sheet constructions as well as the construction of hand washing stands. After they moved to homes and in three homes near the chairman’s home, there were new dish racks recently constructed and home home had a new shower. Tom encouraged the resident to construct a layer of brick and cement on the shower to give it strength and durability. In four homes they found latrines under construction with pits done and in two homes, they had also constructed the slab. Tom encouraged the residents about better construction methods using better materials. In one home of the VHT, Tom and the committee members were not happy with him as he did not hand a dish rack and a hand washing stand. He said he was going to work on them soon. Tom encouraged him to lead by example. In four other homes on the upper section, Tom and the committee members encouraged the residents in the homestead to dig three new pits for new latrines, four dish racks and showers. This is because in the homestead of four homes, they only had one latrine and no dish racks. They all said they will work on the facilities soon. One committee member was given the responsibility to check on that homestead to make sure they are working and improving.
