Notes
Harriet and Jeska made a surprise visit to this village and this was intended to see whether the participants who were previously found using three stones fire along side the fuel efficient stove. They previously gave an excuse of failing to roast maize on the fuel efficient stove and kibo staff had taught them on how they can roast maize on the stove other than using open flames which is dangerous for their healthy. They reached in the village and started walking home to home and the good news is that all the homes that were cooking on open flames had changed and this was evidenced by the absence of three stones in the kitchens. They told kibo staff that the fuel efficient stoves roast maize better than the three stones only that they did not know how to use it. They added that it gives them an opportunity to roast maize as they cook food while using less firewood. One member told kibo staff that the fuel efficient stove is very convenient to use since it doesn’t produce smoke which attracted her husband to cook food with her in the kitchen thus improved family relation. She added that her husband having understood the value of the stove in the home he was able to build for her a firewood risen stands where she stores firewood thus not worried of firewood when the rainy season begins. Some participants who lacked quality kitchens that made them mis out stoves where busy improving or building them in order to get stoves. Mugoya who was found building a kitchen roof told HARRIET that having seen the advantages of the fuel efficient that is how it works, he was motivated to build a kitchen for his wife so that she can get a stove and get rid of the challenge of smoke in the kitchens and lack of firewood. Also as far as smearing is concerned some people are still lagging behind and they said that most of them are busy in the gardens planting.Harriet encouraged them to spare time and smear their stoves and other facilities in order to look neat and last longer or else their stoves will easily crack thus get spoiled. She also asked the Chairperson LC1 to follow up with such homes to ensure that they improve. Also the chairperson was tasked to follow up with homes that did not get stoves, and prepare them for stoves that is ensure that they meet standards to get stoves.
