Notes
Jeska went toNaisamula to follow up on smearing and stove usage. This was a surprise visit because she wanted to find out whether participants use their stoves on daily basis. She reached in the village and was welcomed by the Chairperson of the stove Mr. Mulimdwa and she asked him to walk with her to different homes of the village as she checks on stove usage and smearing. She found some two homes that were using open flames alongside the fuel efficient stoves and they told her that the reason they cook on open flames at the same time stoves is that, their husbands believe in African religions who told her that they husbands religion don’t allow them to cook fish on the same stove that cooks food. So they decided to set fire outside to cook fish Incase the rest of the family is to eat fish. Jeska reminded them about the dangers of cooking on open flames and encouraged them to build an extra stove in the kitchen which they can use to cook fish to avoid the dangers that may result from cooking on open flames. The participants were receptive and said that they will prepare materials and talk to the group to help them to build an extra stove. As far as smearing is concerned some people have smeared their stoves and left their kitchens un smeared. Jeska asked them to smear the entire kitchen so that they look neat and last longer. Some people had empty firewood storage stands and she asked them to stock them with wood that they will use during the time of scarcity. Also one stove for Naigaga was not working well where she complained to Jeska that her stove doesn’t work effectively or delays food to get ready. Jeska checked the stove and found when the hole that takes fire from the big stove to the small stove was blocked with a stove and none of the family member had noticed it. Jeska unblocked it and the stove started working immediately. There were some homes that were leaking and she encouraged them to roof them to avoid rain spoiling their stoves.she also encouraged to take care of their kitchens the way they take care of themselves.
