Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the village to meet with the local leaders and discuss about the way forward to the continuation of the healthy and safe kitchens program while following the Covid-19 guidelines. She arrived there at noontime and observed that most members were just coming back from their gardens. On her way, one member told her that some of the village leaders were already waiting at the community meeting center where she proceeded. The leaders warmly welcomed Suzan to the village and together they settled down for the meeting which was then opened with a prayer from the group chairperson . Suzan first thanked the members for keeping themselves safe from the current corona virus and other diseases although not all of them were putting on face masks. She then requested the chairperson to speak about the current situation in their village concerning the Covid-19 crisis, how the members feel about it and wether they are following the guidelines effectively. The chairperson said that although most members were much aware of the virus, people continued living a normal usual life saying that it was a strange disease which they believed only existed in oversea countries and why would they bother putting on masks yet they haven’t witnessed anyone dying within their village or country. He also said that the masks made them feel uncomfortable for those who tried putting on and they felt like nearly passing out. Social distance was still a big struggle among the members and there were still small gatherings going on in the village most especially the village group programs such as financial institutes like savings, circles and so on. Some of the guidelines which were followed by the community was washing hands and almost each home had a piece of soap with water in a jerrycan at it’s entrance. Suzan informed the leaders that the kitchens program would resume but strictly while following the Covid-19 guidelines and each village meeting would consist of very few group members so as to promote social distance. Kibo staff would also request the members to remain in their homes whenever there was a house follow up for this would enable them to explain about anything concerning their facilities. The leaders accepted the new ideas discussed that day and promised to visit each member so that they would inform them about the new ideas discussed in the meeting.
