Notes
Tom, Chris and the health assistant made a visit to kalalu village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements with focus on the construction of hand washing stands. But before they moved around, they first help a meeting to discuss about the situation of sanitation in the lower section as this is the section of the village with very low levels of sanitation. The committee members shared their challenges with the health assistant about other residents not being very respectful to their work as well as many residents not applying what they are being told to do. The health assistant encouraged the committee members not to be weary and give up on the work but to know that people need patience in order at times for them to realize the value of what they are being told. She thanked the committee for their hard work and for the improvements the village has gotten so far through the construction of latrines, hand washing stands, dish racks etc. after the meeting, they moved around and Chris took one section of the village while Tom and other committee members also moved in another section encouraging residents to improve on their sanitation and hygiene especially through the construction of hand washing stands. In Tom’s section, he was able to see newly constructed hand washing stands well plastered and constructed. Tom thanked the committee member who is guiding on the construction of the hand washing stands. Tom also encouraged them to construct with good bricks so that the stands can last longer. They also saw new pits being dug and latrines under construction.
