Notes
Tom and Chris Made a visit to kalalu village to check on improvements being made in sanitation and hygiene with emphasis on the construction of hand washing stands. As they arrived into the village, Tom left Chris and the health assistant in the lower section of the village with other committee members to move while encouraging residents on sanitation and hygiene improvements on that section of the village. Tom moved to the upper section to also meet other committee members there. When he arrived he was joined by members who waiting at the primary school. They first visited the home of one of the members who was constructing the hand washing stand. They encouraged him on constructing other facilities like the dish racks so that he can be the example to his neighbors. From their they moved to the lower trading center were they also saw three new hand washing stands their with jericans. The stands were not cemented so the committee members encouraged the residents to get cement and put on them. They moved to other homes and in about 8 homes around that section f the village, no home had a Latrine but 6 of the homes were digging the pits. In one home the resident asked the committee member Mr Mubarak to guide him on how to dig the pit as his he had dug was below standard. Mr Mubarak guided him by measuring for his the appropriate size of the pit. The resident was also encouraged to construct other facilities for his home. In other homes, Tom and the committee members encouraged residents to improve by constructing facilities such as latrines, dish racks as well as emphasizing the hand washing stands. For those that had already finished the facilities, they committee members thanked them and encouraged them to maintain the facilities. In the section that Chris and the health assistant moved in, they also encouraged residents on the improvements in hand washing by constructing hand washing stands as well as other facilities.
