Notes
Irene went to kagulu to continue with her lessons on HIV/AIDS basically causes, mode of spread, prevention, and lifetime treatment. The VHT invited Irene to teach the members. Irene started with a review of the previous lesson then asked the members the meaning of HIV /AIDS, musa said it’s slim because it makes one shrink and they become too small, it’s a disease or people with multiple partners. On addition to that Irene gave a clear explanation, giving a clarification that it’s also like any other sexually transmitted infection though whereas some can be treated and cured HIV has no cure. She also explained the mode of spread, how to prevent it and the life time treatment which involves adherence and commitment. After the meeting Irene moved out to a few homes to check on a few homes that’s when Irene found zamina’s son, he is a 3 years old with a hydrocele so the mother has been applying some herbs that the traditional doctor gave her but there is no change, so she requested Irene to give her advice. Irene explained to her saying it’s a hydrocele that required surgery. Then the other child had a boil along her waist line so also the mother also the mother was told to apply charcoal but there was no change so she came for some advice so Irene encouraged her to seek medical help and the next time she will be in that village she requested to meet her and get the reply from the doctor.
