Notes
Enock and Martin made a visit in this community to meet with the community leaders and committee members responsible for encouraging sanitation in this village. When we met the leaders we discussed how to walk around during the evaluation day and to also know homes we have to focus on more to improve there sanitation and bring them up to speed. After the meeting we where also met to walk around the community to check on the progress of the sanitation facilities in homes that are still under construction. We went to continue sensitizing, encourage, monitor and evaluate how the residents are working to improve on their general health of the community. During the visit, we saw many new latrines constructed and others under construction. We also saw many new shower areas in homes we walked in, saw very many new hand washing stations constructed and happily using them, some people who didn’t get jerrycan asked us to give them an opportunity of jerrycans if we still have some, so as they can make use of their hand washing stands. We also noticed a challenge of dish racks construction in many home where most people say they don’t have trees to cut the poles for construction. Those who have trees they have finished constructing there dish racks and using them. Martin taught some homes how to construct a proper shower areas, explained the values and how to make a proper drainage and soak pit and how to clean their shower areas to be neat. Enock focused on the use of ash in most homes which had many flies to use ash and taught how to use it as well as encouraged them how to always clean their latrines because flies carry the germs to their foods. We then visited some stubborn homes to see how far they have worked or improved. There is some good response and progress so far. Many of them are working on new facilities either a shower area, latrine, dish rack, hand washing stands and rubbish pits.
