Notes
Harriet and Tape went to Naibowa village to teach the participants of group C how to practically build stoves. They mainly wanted to guide them as they try to build stoves on their own because practice makes perfect. They found when the participants had already gathered at the home of Nakitende Nasiimu who they had agreed on to get a stove in their group. The participants had all the materials required for building stoves like termite dirt, banana stems ,grass and water in place waiting for kibo to guide them on what to do. It was very interesting to find a big number of participants at the meeting place showing that they were very interested in the program and eager to learn. Kibo staff guided the participants how to measure banana stems whereby the men took lead on that. The interesting thing on this village is that both men and women are committed to participate in the program. Kibo staff guided the participants to measure termite dirt and grass at a ratio of two to one respectively. However participants wanted to know how many basins of dirt they need to use because this family is very big that cooks food on a saucepan of twenty liters. HARRIET told them that such kind of a saucepan requires 18 basins of dirt and 9 basins of grass which they were able to measure. Kibo staff together with the participants stamped stamped the dirt that will be used to build a stove. When the dirt was Kibo staff asked the participants to mold the dirt into small bolls and they collectively moved the dirt into the kitchen.kibo staff quoted the participants to build a stove. The kitchen was big enough that gave every participant an opponent to move in the kitchen and watch how the stove is built. The participants tried but the challenge was after laying the foundation for stove they put the small source pan near the door way other than putting it on the opposite side. Harriet corrected their mistakes and said that it can affect the effectiveness of the stove. When the stove was done Nasiimu the owner of the stove thanked kibo for working with them as a group that has enabled her to get a stove an individual. She said that she can’t wait to start using her new stove because she is tired of the challenges caused by open flames. Kibo staff encouraged the participants to continue working together until every one in the group gets a stove.
