Notes
This visit was to meet with the water user committee and the three builders doing the job of constructing the wall fence, monitor the progress of the borehole wall construction as well as guide them on the remaining steps to complete the construction. Alex wanted to find out if the cement that was budgeted would be enough, get the measurements to weld the pipe that is to be placed in the wall to guide people as they pump the well and to check on the progress of the wall construction and it’s standard. Alex met with five water and sanitation committee members led by the vice chairman of the village called Lubaale and told Alex that the builders had postponed to build on Friday as earlier planned because there was a funeral taking place in the village that day. They are however very confident that the cement (10 bags )will be enough for the work and Alex checked on the work so far done and he was appreciated the builders together with the committee. However the bricks were not enough and the committee had mobilized for more bricks to complete the wall construction. This is one project that is being admired by many people that see this wall and ask the village how they have done it since it’s the first of its kind if not mistaken in the whole Butansi sub county. Alex encouraged the water committee to get the remaining bricks needed to complete this work very soon and to also encourage all the village residents to maintain a safe water chain, meaning that they keep their homes clean and use clean water Jerrycans to fetch water from the new borehole as this is the only way the village will prevent diseases related to poor hygiene and sanitation practices. Alex was unable to connect to Ndhalike as was earlier planned because there was a need to complete an assignment in the office that evening plus the bad weather as it was threatening to rain.
