Notes
Alex was in Butabira village to follow up on sanitation and hygiene improvements in the village. Together with the sanitation committee members they were in the upper part of the village going home to home checking on all sanitation facilities and guiding on standards. Alex was happy to find Taala Peter one of the people that had been very slow and stubborn, he had completed a new pit latrine for his family and all the huts were smeared plus a new bathroom under construction. In this upper section, two homes weren’t responding positively and were without a pit latrine. The other person remaining is called Kabanda Dawson who just completed digging a 20ft pit pending construction of the structure. Most of the other homes in this part of the village have all the facilities but were encouraged to maintain the facility standards in their homes. This is the part in the village that is so much water stressed walking a long distance and others going to the swamp. After the village walk, they came together in a meeting to discuss about borehole contributions and how to encourage the people lacking some facilities especially dish racks to come up. The committee agreed to remain active moving in all the homes together with the village chairman encouraging all people to have all the sanitation facilities and however much the village is lacking poles to construct dish racks, many people have tried though some don’t meet that standard. They will continue to encourage all the residents to have dish racks to see that this facility can also raise in the village. On the side of borehole contributions, the water user committee secretary promised that there are still a few shillings remaining of what was asked to contribute and promised that by the end of this week, the village will meet the target and bring this contribution to kibo office before the borehole repair. The borehole is at a great risk of breaking down any moment soon and they are very worried.
