Notes
Tom made a visit to mpumiro village and when he arrived, he was joined by the chairman of the village and the VHT. They moved from the chairman’s home towards the lower section where they found when two of the residents who did not have latrines have dug pits but are yet to construct on them.
Tom advised one of the residents to use good logs on the pit as the logs he had cut for putting on the pit were small. Tom encouraged them to put on big and strong logs that will give strength and durability. Also in the lower section, they encouraged the residents to improve on the construction of dish racks.
From the lower section they moved to the upper section and went to a homestead of three homes that are yet to finish their latrines and other structures.
In one of the homes, the pit was done a while ago but a yet to construct on it. Tom asked the members of that home why the construction has taken long. The lady said she gave the builder money for buying building materials but is yet to buy them and whenever they try to reach out to him about their materials, he makes himself unavailable to them. The lady said the builder wants to default. The chairman took the names of the builder and promised to reach out to him and make sure that the old lady gets her latrine constructed.
The home next door has finished the pit and even though the man was not available, Tom and the chairman left a message encouraging him to start on the construction of the latrine structure.
In another home in the upper section, they also found when the Mr Ndudu had finished constructing the latrine structure and had started on the plastering of the latrine walls. Tom thanked the wife to Mr Ndudu for working hard to finish the latrine. Tom also encouraged her to construct the hand washing stand. In the home next door to Mr Ndudu, they found when the resident had started on a new pit after the old latrine collapsed due to the recent rains.
Tom and the chairman were very happy and appreciated the resident for being pro active. The pit was at a depth of about 20ft but the resident said she wanted to reach 30fr.
